The initial Porsche Carrera has been presented at Frankfurt Exhibition in 1955, that was the 356 A 1500 GS. The Carrera models were developed for Gentleman drivers who did not want only a sport car, but a competition machine. Then every new Carrera model was based on important engine evolution. From 1958 to 1960, was produced only 31 units of the 1600 GT aluminum, which was the most extreme in term of performances and racing abilities: it was equipped with aluminum doors and hoods, big fuel tank, thin glasses, windows with leather strap and of course, the very specific Carrera engine. Designed by Dr. Ernst Fuhrmann, this four cams 1587 cc using the Weber’s Carburetors develops 115 ch at 6500 rpm to reach 200 km/h top speed, all of this from 1958! In addition, the general equipment and sound insulation were decreased in order to reduce the weight and improve the performances.
The Porsche 356 A Carrera 1600 GT here below went out of Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen production lines the 28 August 1959 in color Rubinrot 5702, with serial number 108645, engine type 692/3 N°95050 and gear box type 716/1 N°29496. Sport seats from Speedster are installed into the car for comfort, an old Enrico Nardi steering wheel, factory roll bar, sport exhaust and bi-metal rims. Initially delivered to certain Mr. Posh, this car got 1 intermediate owner before been bought by a French collector in October 1998. After a first restoration in 1985 by Christophe Tanner, renowned Swiss Porsche 356 Specialist, this gorgeous Carrera got an engine and gearbox complete refection in 2015 at Karl Hloch the German Porsche flat-4 expert. Then it has been driven only few kilometers.
This Carrera 1600 GT, produced at very limited quantity and eligible for all Classic competitions, is definitely a piece of Porsche production cars’ history, as the fastest of its time!
