Sorry, too late !
Group B regulations imposed car manufacturers to produce at least 200 units of road cars before starting to develop a competition car to participate in the world rally championship. In this context, Peugeot created the 205 Turbo 16 series 200 in 1984. Under time pressure, these 200 road cars were all the same, with no possibility of personalization, with no option. In March 1984, when the time came to homologate the T16, Peugeot decided to line them up to show the FIA inspectors that the 200 cars truly existed. Homologation was duly granted on April 1st and the Turbo 16 could participate in the world rally championship on the 3rd of May in Corsica. Comfortable on the ice, dirt and sand thanks to its 4WD, the 205 Turbo 16 made the history with legendary drivers such as Ari Vatanen, Timo Salonen and Bruno Saby, and participating in mythical races such as Paris-Dakar and Pikes Peak. Thanks to the T16, Peugeot won the manufacturer championship in 1985 and 1986!
The Turbo 16 that we offer here is part of this 200 series, but this particular one is a factory car that was delivered new to Peugeot Italia. Painted with racing colors, the car was in charge to make the promotion of the French coupé. The rules imposed race cars to have a rally registration. For obvious reasons, the near-prototypes Evo 2 from Sochaux couldn’t be homologated, hence this car was sometimes used as a test mule, but especially as an identity for the champion Andrea Zanussi in 1985. The car was equipped with a 300 hp PTS kit and a short gearbox with a top speed of 176 km/h, making it very playful and much funnier than an original 200 series. This car was frequently exposed in the showroom of plenty of Peugeot dealerships at that time to promote the car. At that time, its documents and plates were used to make drive the prototype directly coming from Sochaux in Evo 2. Then the race car was destroyed in a car crash. On the contrary, our car always stayed in a lion dealership until 2017 with only 3200 km on the clock. The MI plate is still its original one with the first registration at Peugeot Italia.
What we offer here is a unique opportunity to acquire a Turbo 16 series 200 more performant than the original one with a history as close as possible to the competition and the mythical Group B. We can find numerous articles, race photos and promotional items. This definitely is the most known T16 in the hands of Andrea Zanussi. The car is still in its indisputable 100% original condition. The car will benefit from a service before delivery and will be ready to participate in revivals or to join the garage of a sharp collector.
